VolkerRail completes rail system Hitchin

As specialist partner to the Network Rail/Hochtief alliance, VolkerRail has successfully completed the rail systems element of the Hitchin Grade Separation Project. The project includes the design and construction of the permanent way, signalling and overhead line works for the new single electrified track. The new track, which has been built partly on the new viaduct and partly over the new chalk filled embankment, has been given the name Down Cambridge Flyover.

New junctions

VolkerRail also constructed two new junctions which link the East Coast Main Line (ECML) and the Down Cambridge Flyover to the Cambridge line. This allows Cambridge bound trains from London to pass over the top of the ECML, thus increasing their reliability and improving capacity on Network Rail systems.
