VolkerHighways wins gold at environmental awards
Environmental practices undertaken by VolkerHighways on their Hackney term maintenance contract have won gold at the Green Apple Environment Awards 2015.
Riding bicycles
The Hackney team, were awarded their prize after showcasing a number of initiatives aimed at improving the environmental sustainability of their sites. The successes of their projects include saving approximately 0.46tCO2 by riding bicycles between sites and achieving potential savings of 5,265 litres of diesel per year by using energy efficient eco-cabins.
The Green Apple Environment Awards
The award was presented at a special ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on 16 November. The Green Apple Environment Awards were started in 1984 by The Green Organisation, a non-profit group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
