Sustainable equipment services

To achieve our ambition of a fully carbon-neutral equipment fleet, we are investing in the electrification of our equipment. The equipment package of VolkerWessels Materieel & Logistiek is replaced and expanded in a continuous cycle. A lower contribution to the CO₂ footprint is a very important element in the selection process of equipment.

Our approach

How do we approach this

We are moving towards emission-free equipment through two routes:

CO2 reductionElectrification

CO2 reduction

The short cut is in reducing the amount of CO2 emissions from our current range of equipment. By adopting a sustainability policy in which we convert existing equipment with combustion engines to Stage V principles, encourage the use of HVO fuel and promote the use of hybrid machines, we are getting closer to achieving our ambitions. This conversion in mindset is the first and, above all, fastest way to become more sustainable. Ultimately, adaptation in the fuel-engine equipment package does not ensure a zero-emission result. To achieve that goal, we are committed to electrifying the equipment package.

Electrification

Whereas CO2 emissions are in decline, the electrification trend is the opposite. VolkerWessels is aiming to electrify its fleet of equipment by 2030. By realizing an all-electric equipment package, VolkerWessels Materieel & Logistiek can continue to meet the expected sustainability challenges in construction and infrastructure in the future.

Electrical equipment expansion

We purchased our second electric truck in 2021 and invested in several large pieces of electric equipment. For example, the first electric, fully battery-powered and emission-free crawler crane and several road construction machines such as an electric rolling machine and asphalt spreader. Because of electrification, these machines locally emit no CO₂ and particulate matter, which directly contributes to improving the living environment.

NoNoxfilter

NoNOx

To build during the current nitrogen regulations, we developed the NoNOX filters in 2020. The NoNOX filters can reduce nitrogen emissions by 99% for mobile and stationary equipment. With this, we are taking an important step in reducing nitrogen emissions during the implementation phase. These filters are now widely used in projects.
