Parkhotel Valkenburg has been active with the highly successful UCI Continental Team since 2014 and has delivered several top riders in recent years including Femke Markus, Demi Vollering, Lorena Wiebes, Mischa Bredewold, Riejanne Markus, Karlijn Swinkels, Marit Raaijmakers and Amber van der Hulst. Demi Vollering and Lorena Wiebes are currently ranked one and two in the UCI World Ranking and Riejanne Markus is the current national champion on the road.

During the team presentation of the VolkerWessels Cycling Team (the current men's cycling team) earlier this year, VolkerWessels already expressed its ambition to start a women's cycling team. Alfred Vos, CEO VolkerWessels: "We have been the main sponsor and namesake of a continental men's team, the VolkerWessels Cycling Team, for several years now, and we are very pleased to add this fantastic women's team to our ranks."

Lorena Wiebes, top cyclist Team Parkhotel Valkenburg: "Besides young talents being very well taken care of and professionally coached, with the team you can above all be yourself. We have found a sponsor with VolkerWessels who will continue this and we are very happy with that." Raymond Rol adds on behalf of Parkhotel Valkenburg: "With VolkerWessels we have found a fantastic partner with whom we can not only guarantee the continued existence of the team, but also continue to build on the further development of the team. We have recently had very pleasant discussions with VolkerWessels and have become very enthusiastic about the way the company looks at the future of (women's) cycling and the vision they have in the field of talent development. This feels like a very good match and I am therefore looking forward to this wonderful project."

The current VolkerWessels Cycling Team, has been very successful within professional cycling in recent years and also plays an important social role within the company by organising cycling clinics, company presentations and tours for employees, among other things. The arrival of the women's cycling team will enable an even broader use of this social role.
