In February, Systabo, also part of VolkerWessels, started the construction of the new state-of-the-art distribution centre on behalf of VWLD. The distribution centre will be approximately 25,000 m² in size and is expected to be completed in October 2020. The accompanying parking garage with space for approximately 180 parking spaces will be realized by VolkerWessels company Stam + de Koning.

After completion, the building will serve as a new service office and national distribution centre for Welkoop, market leader in garden and animal products. Welkoop is moving from Ede to Apeldoorn. The 150 or so shops will soon be supplied from the new location and e-commerce activities will also be carried out.

VWLD and Welkoop have opted for Bedrijvenpark Apeldoorn Noord 2 because of its central location in relation to the retailer's shops. Welkoop can reach 85 percent of its stores within a two-hour drive from Apeldoorn. In addition, the business park is conveniently located near the A1 and A50 motorways. Apeldoorn forms the heart of the 'A1 corridor' logistics region and is prominently located as a hub on the logistics axis to North and Central Germany.

Erjan Sprakel, director of VWLD, is pleased with the transaction: "The development of a custom-made distribution centre for Welkoop was an intensive but rewarding process in which we were involved from the very beginning, with a beautiful development as the end result. We are very pleased that with the sale to Nuveen we have found a good new owner for Welkoop's new distribution centre".

CBRE acted as commercial advisor to VWLD and SIGHT as legal advisor. Nuveen Real Estate was advised by Van Gool Elburg Real Estate specialists (commercial), Houthoff (legal) and Drees & Sommer (technical).
